Abhimanyu Easwaran slams ton on ground named after him | Cricket News

MUMBAI: Making a historical occasion of playing in a stadium named after him as ‘Abhimanyu Cricket Academy Stadium’ in Dehradun even more special, veteran Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran slammed an unbeaten century against hosts Uttarakhand on Day 1 of their Ranji Trophy Group A encounter.
Easwaran scored an unbeaten 104 (132b, 10×4, 1×6) to help Bengal coast to 180 for 1 (at the time of writing this).
The stadium was built by Abhimanyu’s father Ranganathan Parameswaran Easwaran, who bought the land for the purpose in Dehradun back in 2005. Knocking on the door of a Test debut, Easwaran, who has scored 20 hundreds in first-class cricket, had scored back-to-back tons during India A’s recent tour of Bangladesh.
Post this performance, he was called up as the injured Rohit Sharma‘s replacement for the Test series against Bangladesh in December.
Easwaran was born in Dehradun and moved to Kolkata to pursue his cricket career when he was just 10 years old. Easwaran made his First-Class debut for Bengal way back in December 2013.
In May 2021, Easwaran was named as one of four standby players in India’s Test squad for the final of the 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship and India’s away series against England. He is still yet to play for India, though.
