DUBAI: Middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer, who missed the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia at Nagpur due to a back injury, is doubtful for the second Test at Delhi too, TOI has learnt.
Iyer had gone to Nagpur with the Indian team, but then left for the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for his recovery.
“While he will travel with the side to Delhi, it’s unlikely that he will be available for the second Test,” said a source.
The second Test will be played from February 17-21 at Delhi.
It means Iyer’s Mumbai teammate Suryakumar Yadav, who was out for 8 on his Test debut at Nagpur, will get another chance to prove his Test credentials. India won the first Test, which concluded inside three days on Saturday, by an innings & 132 runs.
A bad back has kept Iyer out of action since the ODI series against New Zealand last month. The 28-year-old Mumbaikar has been recovering from the injury, which forced him to miss the T20I series against New Zealand too, at NCA.
