IPL Players Auction: Cameron Green rakes in the moolah, bags Rs 17.5 cr from Mumbai Indians | Cricket News

Cameron Green, one of the most exciting white-ball all-rounders currently, laughed his way to the bank at the Indian Premier League (IPL) Players Auction on Friday, as the Australian joined the most successful IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians, for a mind-numbing Rs 17.5 crores.
LIVE UPDATES: IPL AUCTION
His base price was Rs 2 crore.
Green developed into an all-rounder after bursting onto the scene as a Western Australia pacer; and the 23-year-old cricketer, a towering figure at six-feet-six, has turned into a dangerous batter as well ever since.

The T20 World Cup earlier this year would have missed seeing one of the most gifted talents on the international T20 scene lately, but luck turned in Green’s favour at the eleventh hour.
A freak golf injury suffered by Australia’s reserve wicketkeeper Josh Inglis ruled him out and the host nation brought in the all-round skills of Green as replacement. However, the Aussies failed miserably as a team in their title defence on home soil.
Green plays for the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League and made news on Australia’s tour of India with his aggressive strokeplay.

The right-hander’s impact knock in the shortest format came in Mohali earlier this year, when he smoked the Indian bowlers for a 30-ball 61 as the Aussies successfully chased down a mammoth 208 for 6 to beat the hosts. Before that, Green’s top score in T20Is was 36.
Undoubtedly, a player to watch out for in the 2023 IPL. With an option to be used as an opener or a finisher, Green, who will be playing his first IPL, may turn out to be the X-factor for the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians — a perfect like for like replacement for Kieron Pollard, who retired from IPL earlier this year and will now be seen as MI’s batting coach.
