‘Super confident’ Ravindra Jadeja gets self-belief from his batting: Aakash Chopra | Cricket News

Ravindra Jadeja is having a dream Test series against Australia, with his 7 for 42 in India’s victory in the second Test being the latest highlight of a series being dominated by the Indian all-rounder. And former India opener Aakash Chopra believes it’s Jadeja’s batting form that has been the source of self-belief for him in red-ball cricket.
Before his seven-wicket haul in Australia’s second innings to set up India’s win in Delhi, Jadeja took five wickets to help the hosts bowl out the Aussies for 177 in the first innings of the first Test, besides scoring a half-century in Nagpur.

India won the first Test by an innings and 132 runs and the second by six wickets to take a 2-0 lead and retain the Border Gavaskar trophy, with two Tests left to play. Jadeja, along with off-spinner Ravichandran Ahwin, has played a stellar role in India’s twin triumphs.
“To be fair, it felt as if he (Jadeja) never went away,” Chopra told ESPNCricinfo, talking about Jadeja’s dream comeback after a knee surgery. He was out of action since the Asia Cup last year.
“In the series where he was not available at home, Axar was taking five wickets every time he rolled his arm over, and now Axar is not able to bowl since Ravindra Jadeja is at his very best,”

Jadeja was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ in both Delhi and Nagpur.
“It is Jadeja’s batting, I think, which has made him the player he is right now. Just the confidence in his complete skill-set, his entire package has made him a player who has got this immense self-belief. He comes out to bat at (number) 4-5 and scores runs, comes to bowl on Day 1 and picks wickets, which was not his forte in the first half of his Test career.
“In my opinion, it is his batting that has made him the super-confident Jadeja that we see now,” he added.
