Ronaldo posted an emotional message on Instagram after Morocco extended their dream run in Qatar by eliminating Portugal with a 1-0 victory.
“No trophy or any title can take anything away from what you’ve done in this sport and for sports fans around the world,” Kohli wrote on Instagram.
The 2022 edition of the World Cup might have been the last for the 37-year-old Ronaldo to win the top prize for his country, but Kohli believe Ronaldo’s legacy and “impact” went beyond any title.
“No title can explain the impact you’ve had on people and what I and so many around the world feel when we watch you play. That’s a gift from god. A real blessing to a man who plays his heart out every single time and is the epitome of hard work and dedication and a true inspiration for any sportsperson.
“You are for me the greatest of all time,” Kohli’s post further read.
Interestingly, Ronaldo was not included in the starting XI in Portugal’s Round of 16 match against Switzerland and also in the quarterfinal against Morocco.
The last-eight encounter in Qatar was Ronaldo’s 196th international cap, equalling the record for most men’s international appearances.
He is also without a club currently, after his association with Manchester United ended following his comments on a TV interview.
