Steve Smith equals Don Bradman’s 29 Test centuries record | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Former captain and batting mainstay Steve Smith started the Australian summer with a bang hitting a record-equaling hundred on the second day of the first Test against West Indies at Perth.
Smith equaled the record of Sir Don Bradman‘s 29 Test hundreds to add another feather to his glittering cap.
Smith reached the landmark playing his 88th Test match, while the great Don scored his 29th Test century in his 51st Test against England at Leeds in July 1948. That was the penultimate Test of Bradman‘s career.

Only Ricky Ponting (41), Steve Waugh (32) and Matthew Hayden (30) have scored more hundreds for Australia.
Smith hit just nine boundaries in his century that came off 179 balls. It was Smith’s second century in the space of three innings following his unbeaten 145 against Sri Lanka in Galle in July this year.
Smith is part of the great batting quartet of the current generation – the other three being India’s Virat Kohli, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and England’s Joe Root.
Kohli has scored 27 hundreds from 102 Tests, Williamson has 24 centuries in 88 Tests and Root has 28 tons from 125 Tests.
